The operation to restore the Mont-Saint-Michel’s maritime character is owned by the Syndicat Mixte Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel, made up of the Lower Normandy Region, the Département of the Manche, the Brittany Region and the communes of the Mont-Saint-Michel, Beauvoir and Pontorson.

The syndicate committee validates and votes on the orientations of the operation to restore the Mont-Saint-Michel’s maritime character.

The operation has a budget of 200 million Euro, 176 million of which is covered by public investment divided between territorial authorities and the French government, with contributions from the European Union and the Loire-Brittany and Seine-Normandy water agencies.

Cost and financing

Expenditures of 24 million Euro are further added to the public cost of the project. They are financed by Veolia Transport, the delegate selected to construct and manage the future reception and service facilities for the Mont-Saint-Michel.

French government: The operation is being carried out under the auspices of the following ministries: Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fishing, Rural Affairs and Territorial Development, Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and the Sea, Ministry of Culture and Communication, Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Authorities.


Union européenne

Europe: This operation is co-funded by the European Union. Europe has committed to preserving the Mont-Saint-Michel with the European Regional Development Fund. Overall participation from Europe: 21.15 million Euro.
